{ does not pop up macro screen for me. While it works for others. I tried Chrome and IE.

In the old editor "{" is used to insert macros. In the new editor you need to use "/".
The reason that it worked for others is likely that they tried it on a page with the old editor. You can learn more about the new editor here.
