Closing the Sprints with different workflow

Hemal Jivani December 21, 2022

I have a unique situation closing the sprint.

My board has this consistent problem of not being able to close the sprint. The more I try to understand more I am confused :).

So my board follows the workflow of how our Stories and Production bugs will flow. We do not have subtasks following the same workflow. So we can track it better.

Today when I wanted to close the sprint, even though the sub-tasks for one of the completed story was marked as done (and yes, before you guys jump to conclusion, that was the resolution set. yes, it was), it was saying you have unfinished sub-tasks. I had to remove the sub-task from the story to close the sprint.

I'd like feedback from the community on how you guys handle this efficiently.

Does anyone use multiple workflows for different issues under the same board and what they have followed to make this work efficiently

Hello @Hemal Jivani

Is this for a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project?

The following is true for a Company Managed project. I have not thoroughly tested it for a Team Managed project.

For issues and their subtasks to be considered "complete" when a sprint is completed, those issues and subtasks all have to be assigned to a Status value that is mapped to the column farthest to the right on your board. If the issues or any of their subtasks are set to a status that is not mapped to that right-most column, the sprint completion process will consider them incomplete.

It doesn't actually matter if that status is a green status (a "Done" category status) or if the Resolution field is set. It only matters that the status is mapped to the right-most column of the board.

You might also want to look at your board filter to ensure you are not inadvertently excluding some of the subtasks from the board. If there are subtasks that are being excluded, those might not be visible and may be in an status that is considered "incomplete".

@Trudy Claspill

THANK YOU!!!!

OUCH!!!!! It is a company-managed project. This is so counterintuitive if we do not want to show those items in the workflow to crowd the boards. :(

Thank you again for the help much appreciated. Will try and let you know how it goes.

You could consider using a Quick Filter to temporarily hide the other items from view, but be able to see them when you are getting ready to Complete the sprint.
