Dashboard refresh for a given project

Bruno Almeida January 30, 2018

Hi All,

I would like to know if it is possible to have a gadget configured this way:

  • Present a list of projects as a combo
  • Choosing one project from the combo will trigger a page refresh (or a 'broadcast' refresh to all gadgets in the dashboard) and all gadgets that depend on a project should refresh themselves according to the selected project.

Many thanks in advance for any feedback about this requirement.

Bruno

Gadgets on a dashboard are derived from issue filters and do not have any inter connectivity.  I do not know of any add-ons that provide this functionality and was not able to find any.  There are drill down reports for JIRA that might give you what you are looking for or close to it.

Hi Brant,

Thank you for your answer. Yes, I understand inter connectivity is not possible, so we are left with page refresh. Is it possible to trigger a page refresh and all gadgets of the dashboard will reload considering the project selected from the combo? That means that the communication should happen more or less like this:

  • you select  the project from the combo
  • the system stores this info somewhere in the system available to all gadgets
  • when a gadget reloads, it reads the project to be considered from the same place as in previous point.

I hope this requirement is clear.

Thanks once more in advance for your help

Cheers

Bruno,

Since dashboard gadgets are fed from filters and there is no way to pass a variable to a filter, there would be no way to do what you are describing even with a page reload.  We have project reports in Confluence that feed from Jira that I think accomplish what you are trying to do.  When we have a new project we add a new Confluence page and update the Macro JQL.  Then you just select the project you want to see out of the page listing on the left hand side.

Hi Brant, thank you for your explanation. We'll investigate further.
