Hello all. I currently have a project set up only for bug tracking, and our PM requested that our team members track the time taken when completing the bug. However, when they do so, the Description, Time Worked AND Remaining Estimate are flagged as mandatory fields, which for us is not necessary, only Time Worked. This is adding extra steps for the team and we wish to remove them as mandatory. Is there a way I can do this? Is there also a way to do this that is not global across all other projects in our JIRA right now?
Make sure the project is using a different "field configuration scheme" to the other projects, then edit the one it is using to make the fields optional.
Thank you for your speedy response. Could you help me with a bit more details?
I have a separate field configuration screen for my project. When I select "Edit" it only allows me to change the name of the scheme. If I select "Configure", I currently just have a list of the issue types that are in my project (Bug, Improvement, New Feature, Default).
I also have a unique field configuration for the project. When I select "Configure" for that, I see a list of all the fields across all projects, and what screens they are associated with. The only field I see that it could be is called "Time Tracking", but selecting "Edit" on this, again, only allows me to edit the description.
The "Time Tracking" field listed is NOT appearing in the list of Custom Fields, so I dont have the option to edit it further and remove the mandatory fields.
I believe that if I create my own custom field for this, it will change the layout of my tickets - it will appear with the general list of all my custom fields, instead of on the right hand side below the "Time Tracking" header, correct?
As it stands right now, after looking through all those options, im not entirely sure how to proceed further.

Hi, @Janine Daniels!
I think I can help.
The point is that a "Field configuration scheme" just maps a field configuration to a project. So, to complete the task you should change the respective Field Configuration.
Under the field configuration you'll find "Time tracking" and its properties:

Thankyou @Grigory Salnikov, I see I was indeed looking at the correct field, then, in the field configuration.
However, my issue is NOT removing the entirety of the field tracking from my tickets altogether, by making it optional instead of required. When a user select the time tracking to enter in their time spent on a ticket, they ALSO have to enter a description AND estimate of time remaining (it will always be 0). What I would like to do is to stop those fields in the time tracking from being mandatory for them to fill in. On the screen from your second screenshot, selecting Edit on the time tracking field just allows me to edit the description, and not the details of the field itself.

Ok, can you, please, provide a screenshot demonstrating this situation:
When a user select the time tracking to enter in their time spent on a ticket, they ALSO have to enter a description AND estimate of time remaining (it will always be 0).
Thank you!

Hi, again!
Now I see.
Can you please, also, clarify what version are you using? On my server and test cloud environments the screen looks like this:
As you can see, only the "Time Spent" field is required along with "Date Started" which is natural. The "Work Description" field is optional in both cases.

Huh, that is interesting! Sadly I dont have a server based version, which was my first choice due to the much preferred older UI. Since i am on Cloud, I have the most current version, which is JIRA 1001.0.-SNAPSHOT.
The time tracking section of our tickets is under the header of "Tempo", if that helps at all! I presume this is a default option, since the formatting and arrangement in the tickets do not follow the standard used with the other custom fields.

I've noticed that it also depends on the project category.
Which one is yours?

Here, for example, Time tracking for a Business project:

Huh very interesting!
Im not exactly sure if its all the relevant information (I did not create the project myself initially so im not sure what settings they selected), but in the project details section, for project type I have "Software" and under category its set to "None". After looking at the available project categories, I suspect some of the ones we have available were manually created? See below:
(I work in Germany and so am presuming our old IT dept set up those categories, all of our JIRA and Confluence is set to English...)

Oh, I'm sorry, I really meant "Project type", not category. As I can see, it's "Software".
It's strange that I cannot reproduce the issue so that I'd get the same screen.
But, nevertheless, I'm very skeptical that these fields could be set as 'not required'. "Log work" screen is notorious for being non-configurable.

Hi @Grigory Salnikov / @Janine Daniels / @Nic Brough -Adaptavist-
Curious to see if there was a solution for this?
As I'm having the same trouble, from the Screenshot Grigory posted I basically need to make the 'Time Spent' field optional and not mandatory.
Any help greatly appreciated :)
Thanks
Tony
