has anyone had any experience setting up gamification type scoreboards for JIRA projects?

Phil Stebbings September 15, 2020

As a scrummaster, I'd like to setup a dashboard that tallies individual and team results for issues completed by issue type and resource. Any ideas where I can start?

I have used the two column layout for these types of dashboards where the first column relates to an individual and the second column has the same gadgets at a team level.

A couple of dashboard filter tips:

  • always check you have shared the filters used on the board. This is a basic step that even after years of using Jira dashboards I still trip up on.
  • Use "currentUser()" in filters rather than duplicating lots of similar filters set to individual users.
  • wherever possible, add additional editors to important filters. The ability to share editing rights on filters was long anticipated.
  • Indicate in the filter name if it is used in a popular dashboard e.g. 'Dashboard - all support tickets' then put the name of the dashboard in the filter description.

You do not want useful dashboards to fall over because the original creator leaves the organisation and/or goes on a cleaning spree and deletes filters not realising how this will impact others.

For scoreboards I use a lot of Two Dimensional Filter Statistics gadgets. Displaying tickets by assignee vs priority, assignee vs status, or completed issues assignee vs component can be interesting.
