G'day and happy Monday everyone! 👋

To the "Are you learning any languages?" post, "emojis" replied @Fun Man Andy.
This got me thinking... Actually, we all speak emojis!

How powerful these little images turned out to be! They can change the entire meaning of a sentence or reduce a paragraph-long text to one little icon. Or sometimes, they might be misunderstood too...

While doing a little research about them, I came across the fact that over 10 billion emojis are sent every day across the world and 92% of the online population uses emojis daily, which is an incredible amount.

I guess nearly everyone here has at least once given a thumbs-up to a Slack message. Thanks for contributing to the 92%!

So, what are your thoughts about emojis? I’d love to hear some of your stories:

• Have you ever found yourself in a situation where somebody misinterpreted your emojis?

My favorite is 🤔. But I probably use 👀 the most often, as a sort of “acknowledged” message.

I LOVE emojis! 😍

Apart from reducing the number of times to say "thanks" or "no problem", I feel like they can just brighten up the atmosphere of the conversation. 🥳

I'm not using that many emojis when I first meet/talk with someone, so I haven't had situations where my emojis have been misinterpreted, but I know my sister and I pointed to my mum that she should avoid using 👍 as it often feels like a passive-aggressive reaction 😅

At the workplace, a few people have said that they really like emoji reactions I tend to leave on messages and even asked me not to stop doing that.

Since 👍 means like (and in one case was taken to mean acceptance of a contract!) I prefer to use 👀 to show I've seen a message or post.

I use 😎 to show I've done something I've been asked to do.

And 💩 to show one of my Product Owners the quality of his requirements

I love emojis. For work, I reply to each standup report in Slack with an emoji that relates to what they posted (even when it's just loosely related...ha!) My team loves that bit of acknowledgment. I really appreciate how emojis can more easily convey meaning in written text (although, your note about them being misunderstood is definitely tricky!)

In our User Manuals, we have a little section to post your favorite emojis and their meaning.

I think emojis are very useful, but I'm one of the old folks, so I like the tools that give an indication of the meaning of the emoji before I insert it. There are so many that I have no idea what they mean that I am afraid I'll use the wrong one. (do the different color hearts mean different things? what is the upside down smiley face for?) 😉

I have different thoughts about the colored hearts too.
I usually use 🧡 because I find ❤️ a bit too "romantic."
And when it comes to Atlassian, it's 🩵 because, you know, the color matches.

Not sure I have a favorite.  I use👍a lot.  Been told it no longer means "approve", but I still use it.  Overall I like emojis, but not a fan of overuse.

Hi @Sarp Egemen , what a fun topic -- I had no idea 10B emojis are sent every day! 😱🤪🤔 My favorite emojis are probably "cool" 😎, goat 🐐 and paws 🐾 because we have goats and a dog, and smiling eyes😊because that's what happens to my eyes when I smile (they disappear!). Haven't had emojis misinterpreted that I know of but I've accidentally added the wrong emoji on occasion and it could've looked weird.

I use emojis but don't overuse them, I would even say that I would better put " :) " than start searching for an emoji ☺️ 

I don't remember when I was misunderstood with emojis, but I definitely remember that one of the parents from my daughter's class said that I was rude... and the reason was that I didn't use emojis at all in our parents' group chat 😅

At work we have an automation tool we call the vacuum. so for short we created a Kirby custom emoji in Teams to reference the tool. Works great. Cuz sometimes kirtby can be mad or sad or all sorts of emotions.
