Date Range in Advanced Planning

What is Date Range End Date based on in Advanced Planning? We are trying to use this to segment views in our advanced roadmap so that we can use it in our quarterly cycle planning meetings but when we filter by End Date, its unclear which date field it is referencing to filter issues out.
