Start Date?

We have a plan in portfolio and there is a date of "start date" on it.

What is it? is that when the plan is supposed to have started?

Start and end dates are generally associated with Releases. In the portfolio you would have mapped epic/stories/themes with releases and releases always have start dates thus this might the reason for these start dates.

there are multiple projects on this plan and all have different releases and different start dates
