Team needs a portfolio plan

Dejan Velevski July 21, 2025

Hi,

I wanted to include the Team field from Plans into a Jira project. But when I create a Story in Jira and try to select a Team it says:
"plan-specific team can be selected through a portfolio plan" and I can not select anything.

How can I add this plan-specific team and where?

Hi @Dejan Velevski,

You can't add a plan specific team on a Jira issue, only in the plan itself. To do so:

  • Navigate to your portfolio plan
  • In the fields section, make sure the Team field is visible
  • Add the team to the work items you want directly in the team field there

Note: this team will still only be visible in your plan and not on your work items if you look at them from within Jira itself.

If you want to see the team in Jira itself, you will need to make the team(s) from you plan shared teams. That is the only way to also make them visible in Jira (and outside the plan). To do so, navigate to the Teams section in your plan and locate the team you want to share:

Screenshot 2025-07-21 at 14.28.59.pngClick on the ... button next to the PLAN-ONLY label and select Share outside plan. After that, you should be able to select the team right on your Jira work item as well.

Hope this helps!

Hi @Dejan Velevski

Only shared team are displayed there. You have to create a shared team or set a plan team 'sharable'.

In your plan, go to Teams tab, on your team ... share.

You need "shared team management" permission, and publish your change in your plan.
