Atlassian’s new navigation is here!

GA - Hero image.png

Many of you have been asking when you can adopt Atlassian’s new navigation—now you can! We’re thrilled to announce its General Availability (GA) for Jira, Jira Service Management, Jira Product Discovery, Confluence, and Atlassian Home. In this article, you’ll find key details about what’s changing and when those changes will occur.

What’s changing?

Atlassian Home Confluence Jira, Jira Service Management, and Jira Product Discovery

AH.png

Learn about Atlassian Home’s navigation.

Confluence.png

Read about Confluence’s Navigation.

Jiras.png

Discover Jira’s fresh look and navigation.

The new navigation is centered around customization capabilities and ease-of-use improvements. Designed to feel familiar to anyone who uses software products, it’s also the foundation for new features that are being built and will ship soon. We want to ensure everyone can take advantage of these enhancements as they roll out across all Atlassian products. Read about how we built the new navigation.

A simplified top navigation

TOP.png

Keeping the focus on essential tasks like search and create, we've decluttered the top navigation to give you easy access to utility items like notifications, settings, and your profile.

With the focus on search, locating issues, pages, and projects is easier—no matter where you are.

A customizable sidebar

SIDE.png

The streamlined left sidebar reduces clutter and surfaces the most critical navigation items, which you can customize according to your preferences.

Because it is persistent, you’ll always know your location and navigation options no matter where you are, enhancing contextual awareness.

If the sidebar takes up too much space, you can either resize or collapse it.

A modern, scalable design

DESIGN.png

Atlassian’s updated visuals—featuring new color scales, iconography, and typography—enhance the experience with a fresh, modern outlook while improving readability, accessibility, and scalability.

With these changes, we’re not just thinking about today—we’re preparing for what’s next. The new navigation is built to adapt to evolving workflows, ensuring it remains intuitive as teams grow and change.

What to expect?

We know you and your teams have carefully built workflows around our products, so managing change is essential. That’s why we’ve taken a gradual, thoughtful approach to the rollout—actively listening to feedback and refining the experience along the way.

See the table below to know when you can expect the new navigation for your sites.

Note:

  • The rollout will begin at the indicated date, but it may take up to 3-7 days to reach all sites.
  • Rollout timing is based on PST, typically at 5.45 p.m.
  • The timelines are subject to change, and we’ll provide more details as the dates approach. Keep an eye on this page and check the public roadmap for the latest updates and more information on the new navigation.
Cohort Timeline Details
EAP and Beta participants Ongoing

If you enrolled your site for new navigation during the EAP/Beta phase, the rollout process doesn’t impact you as we’ll not be disabling it for you and your users. You and users can continue the new navigation.

We’ll remove the option to turn off the new navigation and enable the new navigation for all users on the site by mid-April 2025.

Frequently asked questions

Question

Answer/Response

The webinar, Unpacking the New Atlassian Global Navigation Experience from Kristin Perchal, shows a different timeline. Has the timeline changed?

Yes, the timeline shown in the webinar has changed. Due to high demand, we’re accelerating the timelines to start from March 17, 2025 to July 2025.

Please see the public roadmap and timelines above for an accurate representation.

Note: We will notify you if there are any further changes to the timelines and how they affect you and your users.

Can an admin turn off the new navigation?

If you’re an admin of a product:

  • You can turn on the new navigation only for yourself

  • You can turn on the new navigation for everyone on the site

If your team is not yet ready to transition to the new experience, admins can delay turning on the new navigation for everyone on the site for a few weeks (3-8 weeks) before we enable it by default.

See the timelines above for the duration you can delay turning the new navigation off.

Can I turn off the new navigation for Jira, Confluence, and Atlassian Home in one place?

No, you can’t turn on/off the new navigation for all products in one place.

Admins

As a product admin, you can turn on/off the new navigation for all your users on this site. Read about admin controls for new navigation.

Depending on the product, you can access admin controls for that product to turn off the new navigation:

  • For Jira, go to Settings > General settings > Jira Labs

  • For Confluence, go to Settings > Configuration > New feature.

  • For Atlassian Home, go to Settings > Personal settings.

All users

Users can turn on/off the new navigation for Jira and Atlassian Home and it won’t affect anyone else on the site.

To turn off the new navigation:

  • For Jira, go to Settings > General settings > Jira Labs.

  • For Confluence, users can’t turn off the new navigation

  • For Atlassian Home, go to Settings > Personal settings.

Can a user turn off the new navigation?

Depending on your plan, users can temporarily turn off the new navigation. See the timelines above to find out how long this option will be available.

If you’re from the below cohort, you cannot turn off the new navigation:

  • Sites on the Free plan

How long will I have the option to turn off the new navigation?

The option to turn off the new navigation is based on your plan. See the timeline above to see when you won’t be able to switch between experiences anymore.

Note: Once a Confluence admin turns on the new navigation for a site, users on Confluence cannot turn it off.

For example, if you’re an admin of a site on the Standard plan, we’ll enable the new navigation for your site on April 14, 2025. You can delay turning on the new navigation for your users until April 28, 2025, after which we’ll enable it for you and your users by default. Your users (Jira and Atlassian Home) can switch between the navigation experience till June 2025.

Once an admin turns on the Confluence navigation on my site, will I be able to turn off the new navigation on Confluence?

If your site has a Confluence subscription and your admin has turned on the new navigation, a user can’t turn off the new navigation for themselves.

Why can’t I see the option to turn off the new navigation for my products?

We have disabled the option to opt out for the below cohort:

  • Sites on the Free plan

I have mixed subscriptions/plans for my products. When will my site get the new navigation?

To maintain consistency across products, you’ll get the new navigation based on the product that has the highest plan.

For example, if your site has Jira on a Premium plan and Confluence on a Standard plan, then both products will get the new navigation according to the Premium plan's timelines, i.e., in July 2025.

In the meantime, join our focus group to stay updated, ask questions, raise concerns, and connect with the team working on the new navigation.

Regards,
Atlassian navigation team

Hi there - wondering, will this apply to Cloud versions only or also to on-premise? We have Jira Cloud and Confluence (on-premise). Thanks

@alfredo negrete @Klaudia Liskova

Unfortunately, we’re rolling out the new navigation for Cloud versions only.

Thank you for the detailed information so that we can get prepared for this change. It would be great if you can do that in future for all changes with such an impact. More details are better than less ;)

@Klaudia Liskova this is for mentioned Atlassian Cloud products only since there Free site and Standard / Premium / Enterprise plans are mentioned. They aren't different plans for Data Center subscriptions.

So that it's more clear I added the tag cloud to the article.

hey @Varsha Patel !

Loving the new updates, have seen some of them come through and its starting to feel like a more unified approach to work.

Problem I have is navigating to find any of these settings, and the instructions don't match the user interface. I'm an org admin so I know I can go anywhere.

I managed to find jira labs under Personal Jira Settings for me, but no chance of finding it for the organisation.

Would be great if the instructions for finding settings match the actual path - but in reality the entire settings layout and approach needs significant work - its become very confusing and I've been using the product since it was called greenhopper! Even implementing a search feature to find the term in settings would be a big help!

@Risto Pearce What you're looking at are steps for turning off the new navigation once you've got the new navigation. I'll make that more clear in this article.

To access admin controls for new navigation from the old navigation:

  1. From the top right corner, select Settings > Personal Jira settings.
  2. Go to Jira Labs to see the controls for New navigation.
  3. After changing the toggle, please refresh your browser window to see the changes reflected.

You can read about admin controls for Jira's new navigation and other products here. Hope this helps!

Tip for new users. If you are like me and want all projects shown at all times, then  navigate to the project page and Star each project that you want to stay shown on the sidebar.

Is there something I have to activate as an admin first to be able to see the new navigation toggle under Personal Settings > Jira Labs?

Same for me. Not seeing the option to toggle the "New navigation" yet.  I am a Jira admin for our site but wondering if all sites are eligible for the new navigation just yet?  Would like to test out before we are forced to use it.

I don't see it either. Is this supposed to be enabled at the beginning or end of business day on 14-April? I believe Atlassian home base is Australia, so I'm wondering if it will be visible tomorrow, Tuesday, 15-April, when we might see it?  Just a thought..

While the opt-in starts on April 14, 2025 (5:45 p.m. PST), it may take up to 3 days to reach all sites. Please bear with us while we roll it out for everyone. See the details here.

@Mike Vitale You won't have to activate anything. But admins will get a notification in the product when the new navigation is available for your site.

@jboothe @Stephanie Johnson All sites are eligible for opt-in from April 14, 2025 (5:45 p.m. PST).

Hello @Varsha Patel ,

The new navigation has been deployed on our instance since this morning but I'd like to ask you a question.

This is what appears in the parameters, i.e. exactly the same for both options, which means “activate for all" :

image.png

Can you confirm that this is an error and that the first entry corresponds to the activation of the new navigation for Admins only?
I need to know before I push the button...

@Aline Veyradier That's a bug for non-English locale, and we're working on fixing it as soon as possible. Thank you for reporting it, I'll update you when we resolve this issue. Sorry for the inconvenience.

@Aline Veyradier thank you for raising - we have a fix for this rolling out now and should be fully rolled out in the next day or so.

To answer your question- yes the top toggle with the radio button only turns the new nav on for you if you toggle it on. This toggle should read "Turn on just for you" (this is what we are rolling out a fix for).

The button below it that says "Activer pour tout le monde" is the one that turns it on for non-admins.

Sorry for the confusion there, we hope to have this fix out soon but in the meantime you can safely toggle it on for yourself with the top toggle and enable for all other users with the button below.

Let us know how you go with the new navigation!

Is the current design really final? Because to be honest, it doesn’t really feel like an update or upgrade. Visually, it actually feels like a step backwards. Almost like we’re going back in time rather than moving forward. I was expecting a more modern, clean look, but right now it’s hard to tell that this is meant to be an improvement. Font, avatars, icons (before colour now no colour) - it is very easy to overlook what I am looking for.

Being able to customize the toolbar is going to be a nightmare for admins because someone may have hidden something they shouldn't have and we will need to remote them and help them find what they hid. Keep the new font, my eyes will adjust but ditch the new UI or make subtle changes and not everything at once.

Hi @Varsha Patel , I've been working with the new navigation for a bit now, and I find the new font face a lot easier to read! One thing on the nav itself that concerns me is that, for Admins, the Project Settings and Delete Project are vertically next to each other. Admins are in Project Settings all the time, so can the Project Settings menu option be moved to the top of the cascading menu for the Project? I can see there's a horizontal bar between them, but it's not enough to keep from accidentally clicking the Delete Project option once a day or so! Here's what I mean:

Project Settings and Delete Project are next to each other.jpg

Thank you!

Hello, @Varsha Patel

Would you mind confirming when we can expect the navigation to change automatically for our full site? Your article mentions July 2025 above (our site has Jira Premium), but this article is a little more vague and says a few weeks after being available to admins:

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/what-is-the-new-navigation-in-jira/

Would you mind confirming when you have a moment?

Thank you and enjoying the new navigation so far!!
