Community release note and maintenance notice for March 5-6, 2025

Hello community!

We’re gearing up for some exciting changes, and you’re about to see the first piece of the puzzle, as our domain changes from community.atlassian.com to community.atlassian.com/forums

Why are we making this change?

As you may know, the Atlassian Community is a bigger umbrella than it has ever been, now encompassing Atlassian Community Events, Learning content, and the online community experience. Our goal is to make the experience more streamlined and intuitive, especially for new users.

Is this the forums upgrade we’ve been hearing about?

No - the functionality and features of the forums will remain the same under the hood. This is purely a domain change update.

Will our URLs all break?

No - the URLs should automatically redirect.

When will the change happen? Will there be any downtime?

This is scheduled to happen starting at 4:30 PM Central Time on March 5 (10:30 AM on March 6, UTC) and last a few hours. During this time, you will find the site temporarily inaccessible, but we should be back up and running soon.

It can't possibly go that smoothly.

We hope it will, but we are prepared for any contingency! If you see any errors, broken links, or other weirdness, you can always post in the comments here or email communitymanagers@atlassian.com.

This isn’t that exciting.

Oh, just you wait! 😉

Any questions? Let us know in the comments below.

@Monique vdB 🤞for a successful update. I guess I'll catch up on some light reading I have been putting off while the community is offline...

I think it must have been completed by the time I signed on this morning (about 8:15AM Eastern). I haven't had any issues so far.

@Monique vdB I guess I didn't read the banner message closely enough. I thought it just said March 5 (before I closed it, so I don't see it anymore). I may need more caffeine today. ☕😴

The banner came back. It does say March 5:

If this is happening tomorrow, please update it to say March 6, @Monique vdB

My bad. I saw AM, not PM. I guess I'm still tired at the end of my day. Sorry. 🙃

Welcome back!

Yes, and...who else is seeing event notifications missing from the bell / See all notifications feed at the top right of the page?

For example, I am only coincidentally finding questions resolved or responded to when re-reading them  (from links in my own profile feed) but not finding alerts in the notifications feed.

Thanks, and kind regards,
Bill

Hi, @Amanda Barber

I just checked the feed and at least one entry present earlier (between 10:20 - 11 am PT) is now gone, and the ones I expected to be present are still absent.  This happens from time to time although I wanted to raise visibility in case others are seeing it after the updates.

Thanks!

Hello, again!

Noting there was just another community site update / maintenance planned, I wondered what has been discussed regarding:

  • Improve how bookmarking works (e.g., grouping, labeling, sorting, searching, etc.)
  • Reduce, improve, remove :^) the ginormous banner on all pages

Thanks in advance for any update info!

Kind regards,
Bill

UPDATE: I should have waited a few minutes before adding that post as links to one's own profile are now broken after the updates, showing this error instead: "Access is limited to Atlassian and vendors only".

@Bill Sheboy we're in the middle of rolling out the new profile/nav - it should resolve itself in the next hour or two and we have release notes coming out as well.

FYI the banner is still there on post pages but it's going away within the next couple of weeks as it's redundant with the new nav.  You'll see it's gone from the homepage already.

No updates to bookmarking yet but it's on our list!

Hi @Monique vdB

Thanks for the information.  I thought the update was finished when I tried to add that "update" and as soon as I posted it the site went offline again for me.  It is back now, and...

I observe profiles no longer show our post feed, a way to give kudos to others, or a way to download post / content history.  Have those features moved or gone away?  The post feed was helpful when notifications stop working, and the ability to give kudos from profiles helps when the kudos control at the top of the page stops working (as it is currently doing...taking several minutes to partially paint in my browser).

UPDATE: After leaving the profile page in a browser tab for about 15 minutes, it eventually updated to show my post history.  After that, it now takes about 20 seconds to populate when the page is opened.

I found the content download new location: from a forum page > gear at top right > manage settings (which is different from the profile view / edit)

Regarding the banner changes, I look forward to see what happens next.  The old one took up 1/3 of the browser page height, and the new "Find answers and get connected" takes up 1/2 of the initial page draw!  I truly hope that is not the planned final version...or that there is a way to turn it off completely by user.

Thanks again to you and the team!

@Bill Sheboy I've noticed the issue with the kudos a couple of times recently—my kudos blank, can't give someone kudos. In fact, it just happened a few minutes ago. I found that logging off and back on fixes it.

@Bill Sheboy if you click on the "total posts" number on your profile, you'll get to your post feed.  More info about the new profile is here for reference.

Peer kudos from the profile are coming back, as mentioned here. For now you still can give them from the hovercard and from the kudos panel and we're still working on improving the search there.

"Find answers and get connected" is in fact huge but I believe it's only going to be on the homepage and not on every page like the current banner.

And I'l dig into the way to download your content, we didn't remove the functionality so we should be able to help with that.

Thank you for the feedback as always!

Awesome!  Now if the new one was just a bit smaller too: "Find answers and get connected..."  ;^)
