#9 Report of the Week: Lead Time Distribution

This week's highlight – Lead Time Distribution Report is designed to analyze how issue resolution time is spread across different resolution intervals. Let’s explore the components, functionality, and how teams can leverage this report to improve their performance.

The Lead Time Distribution Report provides a breakdown of the time it takes to resolve issues within a project. It visualizes the distribution of issue resolution times, allowing teams to see and predict issue resolution times by showing the distribution pattern and probability of resolving issues within specific time intervals.

Understanding the Data

  1. Issues Resolved: This metric shows the number of issues resolved within each resolution interval, giving a clear picture of how many tasks are completed within specific time frames (e.g., 1-7 days, 8-14 days, etc.). It helps to forecast what would be the most typical resolution periods within the project.
  2. Cumulative Issues Resolved %: This metric displays the cumulative percentage of resolved issues, indicating what portion of issues are resolved within each interval. By looking at the cumulative data, teams can understand how many issues are resolved within a certain time frame and assess how their resolution rates are stacking up.

Resolution Intervals

The report organizes resolution times into distinct intervals, such as 1-7 days, 8-14 days, etc. By breaking down the data this way, the report provides a look at performance, highlighting the most typical resolution intervals.

Ensure that the Resolution Interval dimension is imported for this insights.

Conditional Formatting For Highlighting Key Data Points

To make the report even more actionable, conditional formatting is applied to highlight the most important data points.

  • The Fastest 20% of Resolutions: Represented in dark green, this section shows 20% of the fastest resolved tasks and intervals in which they fall.

  • The Middle 60%: Shown in medium green, this range covers the majority of the tasks, giving a sense of most typical resolution intervals.

  • The Slowest 20% of Resolutions: Displayed in light green, this section helps teams quickly spot tasks that took the longest to resolve, indicating possible bottlenecks or areas that need attention.

Filtering Options

  • Project: Select one specific or multiple projects.

  • Time: Set to show data for the last 12 months, but can be changed to a specific year or selected quarters or months.

  • Assignee: View performance by individual team members or select a group of assignees.

  • Issue Type: Filter by specific issue types, such as bugs, tasks, epics, or stories.

  • Priority: Analyze how quickly issues of different priority levels are being resolved.

These filters enable teams to drill down into specific dimensions, making the report highly customizable and valuable for deep-dive analysis.

Conclusions

The Lead Time Distribution Report is a valuable resource for teams aiming to improve their issue resolution process. By breaking down resolution times into intervals, providing clear visual cues with bars and cumulative percentages, and highlighting key data points through conditional formatting, the report gives teams actionable insights into their issue resolution patterns.
