πŸ‚πŸ» Apptoberfest '25 πŸ»πŸ‚ Import Test Cases from spreadsheet to Jira in 4 Minutes

It’s Apptoberfest season on the Atlassian Marketplace, and this year, we’re bringing something practical to the table β€” a speed challenge that shows just how easy testing in Jira can be with AgileTest.

If you’re still managing your test cases in spreadsheets and struggling to move them into Jira, this demo is for you. We’ll show you how to import, organize, and run your tests in under five minutes, using AgileTest’s checklist-based Script Testing feature.

Why We Made This Demo

Apptoberfest is all about showcasing innovation and celebrating how Marketplace apps make work better for teams. We wanted to highlight what sets AgileTest apart β€” its ability to make testing simple, structured, and fast.

Our goal was straightforward: prove that anyone can transfer test cases from a spreadsheet into Jira quickly and efficiently, without relying on complicated imports or scripting knowledge.

Watch the demo video below πŸ‘‡

The Formula Behind the Challenge

The core of the demo revolves around a simple yet powerful concept: convert your spreadsheet test cases into a checklist-ready format using a formula. This allows AgileTest to interpret your test steps correctly while maintaining indentation and structure.

Here’s the formula we use in the demo:

=CONCATENATE(A2,"
    ",REGEXREPLACE(B2,"\n","
    "),"
    β†’ ",C2)

This formula transforms each row of your spreadsheet into plain text that AgileTest can read and format automatically.

Once you paste it into the Script Test checklist in Jira, AgileTest detects the indentation and builds your test sequence accordingly β€” no need for CSV imports or manual restructuring.

It’s a quick, no-code way to move your test cases from Excel or Google Sheets to AgileTest in Jira, preserving the logic and readability of your original sheet.

AgileTest has the one and only checklist-based testing solution for Jira β€” built to help teams move faster without sacrificing structure or visibility.

I do like this app concept. What would be the benefit of building first in excel or google sheets versus building your test cases in Jira directly?

Hi @Reinbeaux_Leitch, that’s a great question!

Starting in Excel or Google Sheets gives teams a lot of flexibility, makes collaboration easier, and is great for quickly editing test cases in bulk. But once your test cases are all set, moving them into AgileTest in Jira helps you keep everything in one place and track progress more easily.

That said, AgileTest’s Script Testing feature already offers a lot of the same flexibility you get in a spreadsheet, so you don’t really need to go back to Excel or Google Sheets once you’re up and running.
