Bringing Confluence Closer to Everyone — Introducing Auto-translation in Next Generation Translator

Imagine joining an international team where the main documentation lives in Confluence — but it’s all written in a language you don’t speak. To help bridge that gap, the team has installed an additional app — Next Generation Translator for Confluence, which allows you to translate pages with self-hosted LLMs or external services.

Every morning, you open pages full of text, and thanks to the app, you can click “Translate” and then start reading. Once is fine. But when you do it 20, 30, 50 times, it gets frustrating. You are wasting time, and more importantly, you feel like an outsider in your team. You’re not learning project details — you’re just clicking buttons to get to the point where you can finally start reading.

We’ve seen this happen in countless teams. A company might operate mainly in German, French, or Japanese, while team members speak English, Spanish, or another language. Our app Next Generation Translator for Confluence has always helped with that — but we wanted to make it even easier and improve the experience.

Our goal from the beginning with the app has been simple: to make Confluence content equally accessible for everyone on the team, no matter what language they speak. In multilingual workplaces, knowledge shouldn’t get lost in translation — or worse, stay unread because it’s locked behind a language barrier.

What does it mean?

From now on, if you prefer reading Confluence pages in English, you don’t have to manually translate them one by one. Once you activate auto-translation for our app in your profile settings, all pages written in any language will automatically be translated to your set target language as soon as you open them.

No extra clicks. No interruptions.

Of course, if you ever want to check the original version, that’s always possible — there’s a toggle to switch back and forth at any time.


Here’s how it works:

The Confluence admin enables auto-translation for your instance in the Next Generation Translator settings. You can then go to your profile settings and enable it for yourself with your preferred language.

From that moment on, whenever you open a page, it automatically shows up translated — no clicks needed.

And if you ever want to see the original? It’s always just a toggle away.


Why we created this feature?

We created this feature because we believe team communication should be as smooth as possible. For the international teams Confluence content is often written directly in the team’s local language. That’s completely natural. But for colleagues who don’t speak that language, it creates invisible friction:

  • Reading takes longer

  • Important information might be missed

  • People may feel less involved in discussions.

With auto-translation, we hope to reduce this gap. It’s a small change that can make everyday work just a little smoother — especially for new joiners who have so many pages to read or for those collaborating across departments.

We believe that language shouldn’t be a daily obstacle. You shouldn’t have to think about translating — it should simply happen for you. With auto-translation, we hope to make Confluence feel more natural and accessible for everyone on your team, no matter where they come from or what language they speak.
