Here’s how we replaced Slack with Chat for Jira – and made our work easier.

Over time, our toolstack grew out of control:

  • Slack for conversations

  • Miro for planning

  • Excel for timelines

  • Jira for issues

  • Confluence for documentation

  • Don't even mention AI.

Every tool had a purpose, but together, they caused more pain than progress:

🔁 Repeating the same info in multiple places
💬 Scattered conversations
🧩 Disconnected decisions
⏳ Time lost on switching tabs and chasing updates

🚨 The communication problem

Our biggest pain point? Communication.
We were talking in Slack, but working in Jira.
That led to constant questions like:

“Where’s the link to the issue?”
“What did we decide about this ticket?”
“Was that in Slack, Confluence, or Jira comments…?”

Sound familiar?

✅ The solution: Chat for Jira

Team Sevidev replaced Slack (for internal communication) with Chat for Jira, and it changed everything.

🔹 Chat inside Jira
Talk directly within the issue, not in a separate app.

🔹 Issue-based discussions
Every conversation is automatically connected to the task it’s about.
No more jumping between threads, DMs, or channels.

🔹 Cross-project conversations
Chat with anyone across projects — not limited to comments or mentions.

🔹 Channels for groups - Just like Slack – but inside Jira. Create team or topic-based channels to chat outside issues when needed (e.g. #ux-design, #qa-team).
All conversations are searchable and stay within Atlassian.

🔹 Real-time updates
Stay in the loop without leaving Jira. No extra tools, no integrations, no tabs.

🧪 Our use case: A sprint with zero Slack

We challenged a dev team to complete a sprint without Slack or Teams — just using Jira and Confluence.
Here’s what changed:

Before After
Slack threads about issues Chat directly inside issues
Lost messages in DMs Conversations kept in context
Constant switching Jira ↔ Slack One place for everything
Confusion over decisions Everything documented + visible

💡 Why it works

Communication shouldn’t live outside your workflow.
By bringing chat into Jira, we simplified how we collaborate.
No extra logins, no scattered messages, no app fatigue.

Hey @Celina  👋

Just stumbled on this and had to say—this is super cool! Love how you squeezed all your chats right into Jira and waved goodbye to Slack. Makes me want to rally my crew to give it a whirl.

Big thanks for sharing your playbook with the Atlassian fam—it’s awesome to see real-world tips like this.

Ohh, this looks like a great and helpful app!

I see through the pain here as I remember all the times I searched for threads in Slack, thinking "I am sure we discussed this... somewhere 🫠 "

@Teodora V _Fun Inc_ - Totally, this app has a "create issue from message" feature - life saver!
