How to leverage AI to format specific sections of your Confluence pages

Here’s the scenario: You’re working on a Confluence page and you want to customize specific sections. You might be low in creativity or looking for some suggestions on the best macros you can include. What would you do? You can experiment with a variety of styling options, insert macros, or re-think your text entirely. Nothing wrong with this. But, testing and tweaking your content is time consuming and you probably have more important tasks at hand. What if you can have a formatting assistant whose job is to scan your highlighted sections and suggest the best possible layout for you? This is what Morph is here to do.

In this post, we’ll see how Morph helps you transform specific sections within your Confluence pages.

But first… What’s Morph?

Morph is your AI-powered content formatting assistant designed to streamline your work on Confluence pages. It takes raw, unstructured content and transforms it into polished, well-formatted pages with the right macros applied—all with a simple click.

How to transform specific sections?

Select specific parts of a page to format instead of the whole thing. This is great for refining existing content without changing everything at once.

  • Click the Morph button from within your Confluence page.
  • Highlight the section you want to format and click “Morph Highlight”. In our example, we will be only transforming an FAQ section.

  • You can replace your highlighted section, place the morphed section below or retry. The suggested expander list kind of does the job here, so we'll keep it and replace the old content.

  • Finally, you can either save your content within the current page or create a copy.

Best practices to make the most out of Morph:

  •  When to transform an entire page or specific sections:

Deciding whether to morph an entire page or just a section depends on your content, your goals, and of course, YOU. If you're working on a Confluence page from scratch with unformatted content, transforming the whole page at the start makes sense. It gives you a starting point, some formatting ideas you might’ve not thought of, and a clean layout to build upon. Morph will apply the right macros across the entire page, saving you from manually formatting each part.

On the other hand, if you're a seasoned Confluence user with a well-organized page, you might want to morph only specific sections. Perhaps, another tab layout for better navigation, advanced expanders for FAQs, or highlighting key details with panels. This allows you to tweak and enhance content without affecting the entire page.

  • For more customization, install Content Formatting Toolkit:

When working with Confluence macros, customization is key. For this, consider installing Content Formatting Toolkit for Confluence Cloud if you haven't already. While Morph works seamlessly with Confluence’s built-in macros, the latter are basic in terms of design and customization. Content Formatting Toolkit unlocks advanced options, allowing you to insert tailored macros, and even ones that don’t come by default in Confluence such as tabs and buttons.

  •  Highlight sufficient text when transforming sections:

When selecting a section to morph, make sure you highlight enough content for Morph to understand the context rather than just a couple of words. Otherwise, the AI won’t be able to grasp the full picture and suggest the best possible formatting recommendations. Instead, select a full paragraph, a set of related points, or an entire section that you want to refine.

  •  Experiment with different transformations

We’ve all used AI at this point. The best possible results often come after a constant back and forth, and this is no different with Morph. If the first transformation doesn’t quite convince you or you want different suggestions, you can run Morph again. Here, Morph will scan your content and suggest a different layout. You can also tweak the original text slightly before reapplying Morph to guide it toward a better outcome.

  •  Review and refine:

The Confluence page is yours and you have the final say on its layout. Always review and refine the results. Morph is designed to assist, not replace your judgment. Double-check the formatting, adjust colors to match your brand identity, and fine-tune any details to align with your preferred style. This small step ensures your Confluence pages not only look great but also maintain consistency across your workspace.

And there you have it! In addition to helping you instantly transform entire Confluence pages, Morph now allows you to pick and choose specific sections to transform.

Morph is available on Atlassian Marketplace. It’s still in its early days, we encourage you to give it a try, and of course, leave your feedback.
