Atlassian announced they are pausing the sunset of several dashboard gadgets, most likely due to the new Home Dashboard and gadget / reporting capabilities.  To learn more, please read these articles:

You're absolutely right. I've already updated the post to reflect the current status.

Our label gadget 2.0 wasn't developed just as a replacement, but rather to offer more advanced features like filtering by saved filters and colored labels in dashboard.
