I have a JPD project with ideas. When product managers are working on the ideas , they need to log the time spent against those ideas.
Hello @Bhuvaneswari Vasudevan
If you're looking to track how much time is spent on product discovery ideas in a JPD project — but don’t want your product managers to manually log hours — here’s a helpful workaround:
Use “Status Duration Times” instead of time logging
Timepiece - Time in Status for Jira, the oldest and leading Time in Status app in Atlassian Marketplace — developed by my team at OBSS — automatically calculates how long each idea (issue) spends in each status, based on Jira history.
For example, you can measure time spent in:
This allows you to track how much time it takes to progress ideas through the discovery process — without requiring manual time logging.
The Status Duration Report helps you:
Timepiece works out of the box with JPD, as long as the idea’s status history is retained (which it generally is). No workflow changes are needed.
You can view the reports via dashboard gadgets, the app’s own reporting page, or export them to CSV/Excel. REST API is also available.
If you'd like to explore this solution further, feel free to check out Timepiece on the Atlassian Marketplace or schedule a demo with us for a walkthrough of the app's features.
Hope it helps!

Use Time in Status as a workaround (no time logging required)
The app automatically calculates how long each idea (issue) spends in a given status — such as "In Discovery", "Research", or "Exploration".
So instead of logging time, you can:
This gives you a realistic view of work time spent on an idea — especially helpful when work happens over several days and time logging isn’t practical.

You can link each idea to a Jira issue and log time directly on that issue. Jira has a very good Time Spent feature that allows you to track effort, report on logged time, and manage work effective.
