Why am I not able to add associated work to an objective in BigPicture?

Eugene Rivers April 28, 2025

I am preparing for our next Program Increment and I am unable to assign associated work to the Program Increment BigPicture Objectives.  I have done this many times in previous PIs.  I am able to do it in the current PI but not the next PI which starts in 2 weeks.  I have not found any settings that seem to help.  I have tried changing the PI to in progress but that did not help.

Hi @Eugene Rivers , welcome to the Atlassian Community and thanks for your post.

Please can you share some screens, anonymised is fine, of what you're trying to do, what error messages you're seeing (if any) so we can try to help?

I tagged BigPicture and their vendor, Appfire, into this post to try to get some more eyes on this.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Best wishes

Here are screen shots of "Add Associated Work" working and of it not working.  Does this help?

My Release Train Engineer figured out the answer.  The Scope of the project was not set properly.  To Set it you need to:

1. Go to your project in BigPicture

2. Select "Overview" from drop down in top right corner

3. Right click on the left side of the Program Increment in the list

4. Click on "Configure" in the pop up

5. Open the "Tasks" tab on the left side

6. Click on "Scope Definition"

7. Add the "Projects" and "Boards" to set the scope for the the associated work that can be added.
