Last week at Team ’25, I had the absolute pleasure of leading a session for some of the most thoughtful, curious, and passionate folks I know—our Atlassian Community Champions. Together, we tackled one of the biggest hurdles in AI adoption: the objections. Not just abstract fears or hypotheticals, but the real, candid questions we’ve all heard from teammates, stakeholders, and clients.
Huge thanks to @Sanjay Kulkarni and everyone who joined the conversation and made it electric. You brought the energy, the honesty, and yes—even your Disney alter egos—for some top-tier speed networking and spirited debate.
We grounded our 30-minute session in the ARCS motivational model, adult learning principles, and a dash of Cognitive Load Theory—because knowing how people learn helps us teach them about AI more effectively.
We moved through three core phases:
Engage: Shared why people attend events (hint: 81% say “networking”), then kicked things off with AI objection brainstorming.
Educate: Sorted real Rovo features from general AI capabilities and discussed how to explain the differences.
Convert: Role-played brief elevator pitches to respond to top concerns and show how Rovo fits into real-world workflows
Here are just a few of the powerful questions and concerns that came up, along with factual, field-tested responses:
Objection | Rovo Reality |
---|---|
“It’ll make people lazy.” | Rovo doesn’t replace thinking—it reduces busywork, like hunting down info across Jira and Confluence. |
“It gives generic results.” | Output reflects your inputs. Use relevant examples, permissions, and tuning for better outcomes. |
“Can I trust it?” | Yes—with guardrails. Rovo cites sources and respects access permissions, so you can verify and trust the context. |
“It’s too expensive or hard to set up.” | Rovo comes with your Atlassian subscription! Start with small pilots to show fast wins. |
“What about security and compliance?” | Rovo aligns with Atlassian’s strict security protocols—SOC2, ISO27001, GDPR, and more. Your data stays your data. |
“Am I training my replacement?” | No. You’re training your new best friend. Rovo augments your work; it doesn’t replace your role. |
Now that Rovo is included with most Atlassian subscriptions, the question isn’t if you’ll use it—it’s how you’ll get the most out of it.
Let’s keep pooling knowledge and experiences. Whether you’re launching your first Rovo agent, redesigning your knowledge base, or building trust across your team—we can make this journey easier together.
Drop your wins, lessons, or lingering questions in the comments. Let’s help each other move from “why AI?” to “what’s next?”
