As the Owner of my company's ChatGPT for Business account, I've tried to set up the Atlassian MCP Server for the team. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to work at all.

The set-up process, such as with Claude, seems to work, as it will go to Atlassian for my user authentication. However, it never works in the chat.

Has anyone got it to work?

1) Should I set it up using an API ID and Secret?

Hi @Travis Polland,

No, you should not use an “API ID + Secret” in the connector setup for Atlassian’s official Remote MCP Server. Authentication is handled via OAuth (not a simple API key/secret) for Atlassian Cloud.

1. Make sure you’re using the correct server URL provided by Atlassian and that your account/organisation is eligible. Check: is your Atlassian instance Cloud or Server/Data-Center? The official Remote MCP supports Cloud only currently.

2. On the ChatGPT side, you need to go into Connectors (or Developer Mode) and add the Atlassian Remote MCP Server URL, then enable the tool(s). Some users report that Confluence integration works but Jira actions do not, so permissions + scopes matter:

  • The scopes/permissions granted to the OAuth app in Atlassian

  • That ChatGPT shows no error like “violates our guidelines” (which can indicate unsupported server/auth method) OpenAI Community

  • Logs or error messages on both sides (Atlassian and ChatGPT)

I hope these links are helpful for you:

Best,

Peter
