Branch Updater: I have query regarding Branch updater

I have configured branch updater at branch level, and provided a branch from which it should merge and give results in bamboo, However, it is taking on it's parent branch to merge.

Could you please help me to figure this out? Does this is how it works or we can configure any of the branches from current repository to merge with and provide status.
