Getting an aysnchronous result into bamboo?

I have some bamboo plans that kick off long-running scheduled tasks on other servers. Ideally I would like to have bamboo show the result of the jobs as incomplete/pending, and then have the remote tasks return a result to bamboo with a pass/fail. Is it possible to return a success result to bamboo asynchronously in this way?
