This blurb is now found on many agents help pages, starting with 8.1:
"Local agents are no longer supported in Bamboo Data Center. Because of that we decided to standardize the naming and from now on we will refer to remote agents as simply agents."
I'm running an 8.2 instance for a client and still have the ability to use local agents. Is this actually deprecated in some later version?
Hello Gordon,
Welcome to Atlassian community.
From Bamboo 8.0 support for local agents has ended, although the functionality remains intact you can continue using them, but Atlassian won't be doing any bug fixes or do any feature improvements for local agents so you should plan to move away from local agents.
Bamboo Data Center roadmap is crucial for us and we are observant in not stopping something that's obvious like local agents. However, as the product matures we may have to do some informed tradeoffs, in any case we will make sure those are updated in Bamboo Data Center Roadmap
Also we advise our customers not to use local agents in Production environment as they run on the same JVM as Bamboo and will consume a lot of memory and can make the application unstable.
Regards,
Shashank Kumar
