Currently, BambooCloud is using JDK 1.8.0 update 31. Is there a way to force an update to update 40, other than creating my own elastic image with it installed manaully? or do we have to wait for Atlassian to do it? And if so, is there a link to their schedule to do that?
Hello Ben,
Thank you for your question.
Please, notice the URL you have provided is for openJDK whereas the stock images in Cloud are using Oracle instead (in most cases). However, you are able to install the Java version that suits you most by going to "Bamboo administration >> Elastic Bamboo >> Image configurations >> [stock image]" and hit "Edit" under "Operations".
You should find "Instance startup script" at the bottom page where you can download and install the JDK that you require.
If you find this answer useful, I would kindly ask you to accept it so the same will be visible to others who might be facing the same issue you have inquired.
Thank you for your understanding.

Hi Ben!
There's no way to force a JDK update on Atlassian Cloud. All dependencies are shared between multiple servers and all clients are supposed to have all (or the major part of) softwares running under the same version.
Unfortunately, we cannot disclose any road map for future updates on JDK under our servers. Anyway, be sure that we do our best to keep all dependencies as updated as possible but we have to ensure, in first place, full compatibility with our products and between dependencies as well. That means lots of testing before an update goes into production!

Seems like waiting over a month to get the latest JDK into Bamboo is excessive, particularly if no date given. Specifically, we need the fix for https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8056984 and the alternative of making our own elastic images is a lot of work. As usual, it seems that Atlassian Cloud doesn't get the love it deserves for it's paying customers...
