java.net.UnknownHostException: api while adding a new DVCS repository

We have a github repository hosted @ https://github.scm.corp.company.com/reposiotory.git

When I try to add this I am getting following error :

Error!

The repository url [ https://github.scm.corp.company.com/reposiotory.git ] is incorrect or the repository is not responding.

In the logs:

/rest/bitbucket/1.0/urlinfo [plugins.bitbucket.spi.DefaultRequestHelper] java.net.UnknownHostException: api.github.scm.corp.company.com

/rest/bitbucket/1.0/urlinfo [plugins.bitbucket.spi.DefaultRequestHelper] Unable to retrieve repository info for: https://github.scm.corp.company.com/reposiotory.git

Note that I have replaced original urls

This is a low level error which says that it simply cannot find the host. Are you able to succesfully reach this host without JIRA? Are your network settings correct?

Yes ... I am able to connect jira to git via other git plugins (Jira Git Plugin).
