Bitbucket Cloud is moving to Atlassian’s new unified billing platform

Hey Bitbucket Community!

We’re excited to share that Bitbucket Cloud is moving to Atlassian’s new unified billing platform. This change will bring a more consistent, transparent and flexible billing experience across Atlassian apps.

Why are we doing it?

We’re transitioning Bitbucket billing to the new platform to simplify subscription management so that you can manage billing across all of your apps within Atlassian Administration. This change is a direct response to one of the biggest requests from our customers: unifying and modernizing the billing experience across Atlassian apps.

By fully integrating Bitbucket billing with Atlassian Administration, we’re laying the foundation for a centralized experience that enables unified billing across all Atlassian Cloud apps. This transformation unlocks new platform capabilities, improved admin workflows, and future support for highly-requested features such as Packages, Runners, and the ability to purchase Marketplace apps.

When is it happening?

All new purchases of Bitbucket Cloud will be billed on the new billing platform by default starting on 10 Sept 2025. We will begin migrating existing Bitbucket Cloud customers to the new billing experience starting on 6 Oct 2025.

  • Workspace admins, billing, and technical contacts will be notified in advance via email before billing is migrated.

  • Access to Bitbucket workspaces and plan pricing will remain unchanged during this transition.

Please note:

To qualify for billing migration, your Bitbucket workspace must be linked to an Atlassian organization. All workspace administrators on paid plans have received an email with linkage instructions, which are also available in this Community post.

Important: what to expect post-migration

Following migration to the new cloud billing platform, there are a few key differences in the experience for all billing and subscription management-related activities. Primarily, you'll interact with a brand new billing interface within Atlassian Administration for the following activities:

  • Improved management of invoicing and billing administration under an account-based model.
  • Enhanced billing roles, including a new Billing Administrator (superuser) role that grants full permissions within the account.
  • Access to a brand new, user-friendly interface to help admins oversee Cloud product subscriptions, quotes, and additional billing activities.

Please note:
  • Bitbucket’s billing model will not change when it is onboarded to the new billing platform. Your product cost and access will not change.
  • Billing and technical contacts will become billing admins once migrated to the new experience, and workspace admins will receive billing admin permissions. Learn about managing billing admins on the new platform here.
