I'm just curious, why Bitbucket is being updated to the latest version of Git, but Mercurial is lest behind (the current version is more than a year old)? Is Bitbucket is about to become a Gitbucket?
It seems that Atlassian just want to match whatever GitHub is doing, instead of trying to be unique and popular on their own...
In a nutshell, Git and Mercurial are just the tools to allow you to interact with repos.
You are free to try and use any version of Git or Mercurial you want with Bitbucket. If, for example, your IDE limits you to a particular version of Git or Mercurial, use the version your IDE supports. Make sure you state the DVCS versions you are using if you have to log a support request, comment on a blog, or post to a Bitbucket discussion list.
