We have our Bitbucket Server instance on an Azure VM.
We take regular backups of that VM (Azure functionality - Application consistent restore points).
Is it then necessary to set up any more backup stuff for Bitbucket Server like suggested here? https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucketserver/data-recovery-and-backups-776640050.html
Do these backups contain both the database and the home directory in a consistent way?
This is true if they have been taken at the same time and when Bitbucket Server was in maintenance mode / locked so that no users could change anything in the application.
If that's the case, then no additional backup is required.
The instructions on the page provide some "ready to use" options that achieve the above, but a consistent backup can be achieved in other ways.
Cheers,
Caterina
sorry for the late answer, I have been on vacation.
No Bitbucket has not been in maintenance mode. Is there a way to auto-configure this? Maintenance mode between 0100-0300 in the night?
I have looked at the other backup alternatives and I find them hard to follow. We host on a Windows machine so cannot use the zero-downtime alternative because it requires a different filesystem.
