Master is gone during push and pull requests

Since a few weeks, in several of the git repos the default master (or main if this is the master) at the remote server is not available and visible by default anymore. I always need to first "update branch" during pull or push (and even this is not working always). Only then the master is visible, but still needs to be selected manually. Unfortunately, this then forgotten after the next commit and I need to update and select it manually again.

In the past, these branches were always available. There are some repos which are not affected.

Doing git pull or git push at the commandline works fine.

I also tried to remove the repos and pulled it new (in Sourcetree), but did not help.

Any ideas how can I back the expected behaviour?

Thanks!
Norbert

Hi @pucicu

Welcome to the Bitbucket Cloud community :)

In the Bitbucket Cloud UI - can you please check what is configured as the main branch for those repositories and let me know if it's what you're expecting?

  • You can check this by navigating to Repository Settings > Repository Details and clicking the Advanced dropdown, this will show a main branch field

If it's not what you're expecting:

  • Update the main branch to the correct branch in the dropdown
  • Perform a fresh clone, do you see this main branch now by default in Sourcetree?
  • If not, perform a subsequent clone in a terminal window (outside of Sourcetree)
  • Execute the git branch command - do you see the branch listed here locally?

If it was what you were expecting:

  • Perform a fresh clone in a terminal window (outside of Sourcetree)
  • Execute the git branch command - do you see the branch listed here locally?

Cheers!

- Ben (Bitbucket Cloud Support)

Hi Ben,

thanks for your response. I have just realised that there are several sub-communities for different products. The offer of this community is really overwhelming. I was talking about sourcetree. I have now changed to the correct sub-community.

Sorry for this.

Best

Norbert
