We have the following Environment.

Windows Server 2016, Bitbucket 5.10.0, JRE-8u161x64

JRE has been installed in the default path. Then Bitbucket was installed.

Services Atlassian Bitbucket AtlassianBitbucket and Atlassian Bitbucket Elasticsearch 5.5.3 (AtlassianBitbucketElasticsearch) are installed and start automatically.

The variable Java home is not set

We want to update Java.

What is the best practice for it.

best regards

Hello Thorsten,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

If your Java home isn't set, then Bitbucket probably is using the default JRE and not your system Java anyway. If you want Bitbucket to use the system Java, you'll need to set the Java HOME path first. From there, you should just download and run the updated installer for Java and that should update your Java version. Performa a restart on Bitbucket Server and you should be good to go.

I would ensure that you take a full backup of Bitbucket and your server before doing it just in case something goes wrong, you can easily restore.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
