I get the message "Your workspace has exceeded the 1GB limit..."

Azhar Fajriansyah June 29, 2025

Hi Atlassian team, can you please help run GC on our bitbucket workspace, so we can do some advanced cleanup afterwards?

Hi Azhar and welcome to the community!

Your Bitbucket account has access to several workspaces. Out of these workspaces, there is only one exceeding 1 GB. I noticed the following:

  • This workspace used to be on a paid billing plan. The payment of the latest invoice failed and the workspace was downgraded to the Free plan, which is why you see this warning (the 1 GB limit applies only to workspaces on the Free plan).
  • The workspace has more than 5 users. Even if the space it consumes gets reduced, you won't be able to push any changes unless you reduce the number of users to 5 or less, or upgrade the billing plan back to a paid one.

Could you please let me know which of the following is your end goal?

  1. Would you like to keep the workspace on the Free plan and reduce the number of users to 5 or less?
  2. Or, alternatively, would you like to upgrade the workspace's billing plan back to what it was? Upgrading the workspace's billing plan will restore your write access and will make this warning go away.

Kind regards,
Theodora

Yes, sorry, it turns out the payment was declined. We have updated the card details so the payment is now successful, but the error is still showing in bitbucket. Is there anything else we should do?

We have checked the items in the previous month's invoice, there are subscriptions for:
- Confluence, Monthly, Standard (USD, ADV-FIXED STARTER 2, 16-10-2024)
- draw.io Diagrams | UML, BPMN, AWS, ERD, & Flowchart Standard MONTHLY USD COMMERCIAL CLOUD
- Jira Service Management, Monthly, Standard
- Jira, Standard, Monthly

There is no bitbucket in there. Or is bitbucket already included in one of those subscriptions?

Hi Azhar,

Thank you for the info.

After updating the credit card, you will also need to manually upgrade the billing plan of the workspace. Since you are a workspace administrator, you can do it the following way:

  1. Log in to https://bitbucket.org/.
  2. Select your avatar from the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Select All workspaces from the avatar menu.
  4. You will see a list of workspaces your account has access to. Select the link Manage for the workspace you have issues with (ensure you are selecting Manage for the correct workspace).
  5. On the new page that opens, select Plan details from the left sidebar.
  6. On the new page, you can double check the credit card details and you will also see a link Change plan. You can use that link to change the billing plan to Standard or Premium.

Bitbucket is a separate subscription than Jira and Confluence, billing is separate and we also send a separate invoice.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes and if you have any other questions.

Kind regards,
Theodora
