Linux vs Windows for bitbucket host OS?

swift_bitbucket May 31, 2018

Can anyone help me find a side-by-side comparison of Linux vs Windows for bitbucket's host OS?

Also, is there a guide for migrating bitbucket from a Debian Linux OS to Windows Server 2012 R2?

Finally, anyone know if any of the "partners" have a reasonably priced small-scale support offering? Those I spoke with so far were insanely high.

Many thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I am happy to go over your questions with you!

Can anyone help me find a side-by-side comparison of Linux vs Windows for bitbucket's host OS?

There is no side by side comparison with respect to Windows vs Linux as they are both supported platforms. However, if you anticipate having more than 500 users and/or are considering scaling up to a Data Center instance, Linux will be the way to go as Windows is not supported in either scenario.

Also, is there a guide for migrating bitbucket from a Debian Linux OS to Windows Server 2012 R2?

There is a general server migration guide that you can find here:https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucketserver/migrating-bitbucket-server-to-another-server-776640406.html

At present there is not a resource that covers migrating from Linux to Windows. You should however be able to migrate from one OS to another in a very straight forward manner as discussed in the resource linked above.

Finally, anyone know if any of the "partners" have a reasonably priced small-scale support offering? Those I spoke with so far were insanely high.

Currently there is no Atlassian Partner Pricing guide to refer you to.

I hope this information is helpful!
