Bitbucket username does not have an email address

Chris Clancy May 10, 2021

Hi,

One of the admin accounts in our team was setup in the days before you had to use an email address to log in. We never needed to merge with an atlassian account and so now we cannot log into Bitbucket with this user to make changes, such as adding an email address! Is there a way to configure an old style (non email) Bitbucket account so that it can become an Atlassian account?

Thanks

Chris

Hello Chris!

Sounds like your admin accounts been around for a while. Thanks for using the product for such a long time!

With that said, we'll need to set an email alias for your admin to allow for them to get connected again. Since you can't log in as the admin itself, you'll need to use another admin account (if available) to resolve this. Please review the following to migrate your admin account to an Atlassian account: Upgrade to Atlassian account.

For other users which need to update their email alias, that information may be found at: Set email aliases.

If you have no access at all to another admin account, please reach back out and let us know and we'll find another way for you to resolve this.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the response. We have now got this one sorted. Turns out that the account did have an email address assigned but I was not seeing it in all the places I was looking, which was very strange. For example, if I added the user to a project, the email usually appears under the user name, but it was not there!

We found another route to list all of the users and the email is then clearly visible.

Cheers

Chris
