Is the billing linked to the team not to a single user that own many teams?

Hi,

I'm a BitBucket Cloud new user.

I have to manage few different developers teams. I want to create a team in BitBucket for each of them.

I want to be billed for all the user included in all teams I create. But, today it seems that I'll be billed for each team individually not for the global number of users I've to manage.

Example:

Team A: 6 users --> 1 bill for 6 users, I should provide credit card information for this plan

Team B: 12 users --> 1 bill for 12 users, I should provide credit card information again for this other plan

Team C: 8 users --> 1 bill for 8 users, I should provide credit card information another time for this 3rd plan

It's little bit crazy...

I want to be billed for 26 users in one time and I want to provide credit card information just one time.

Could you help me to explain how to go in this simple way?

Hi Philippe,

Please note that it is not possible to have a total bill for these teams as each team has its own billing plan, which is separate than the billing plan of other teams you own. And it's also separate from the billing plan of your individual accounts. If you manage to keep your teams in the free plan, you will not be billed.

Let's say you have an account in BB, and you have 10 teams then, your account has its own billing plan and each of the 10 teams has its own billing plan, meaning 11 billing plans in total (which might be free if you don't buy a paid plan).

I understand the business model and some reasons to manage like this, even I disagree to pay multiple times for a user shared by the different teams...

So, I'll manage a unique team and I'll use groups to manage their differences, even I'm thinking groups are not designed for this goal...

If for example, if 6 users are part of all three teams, would I be billed for them on a per team basis. I can understand the per team billing and plan, but is this not double dipping if we're being charged everytime a user is added to a team with 5+ users?

Hello Ahmad,

Thank you for your follow up question and my apologies for the late feedback.

Please note that Bitbucket defines cost based on the number of users who have access to private repositories. Each plan comes with a set amount of build minutes for Pipelines and file storage for Git LFS, but you can get additional minutes and storage.

Next, to that, a user is anyone with a Bitbucket account. Once you give a user access to a private repository (as mentioned hereabove) they count as a user for your billing plan. A team or account is a group of users with access to shared projects and repositories. Learn more on https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucket/teams-321853005.html

Users always only count once: so user A from Team A can be a member of both repositories and will always only count as 1 user against the billing plan for this account. She/he can, however, also count as 1 user in another person or team's billing plan if that person or team has invited her to a private repository.
Changing a repositories status changes the status of all the users in the groups for that repository: It's the repository state (private or public) which matters in counting users against your billing plan.

Groups bring all their users with them when you add them to a repository: When you invite a group to your repository all the users in that group count against your billing plan. So when user A adds the Open source group she/he is adding those 5 users (remember User A is already counted) to her/his private repository. If you only want some of the members of a group you must add them individually or adjust the group itself.

Giving someone repository administrator rights to a private repository will allow them to invite users to that repository and those users will count against your billing plan.
