Hi,
I've used BFG to reduce the size of a repository that already had 2.45 GB.
After pushing, the size on bitbucket increased to over 3 GB though.
Could you please run a manual garbage collection on my repository '*_app_android'?
Thank you and all the best!
Thomas
Hi @accursedm0
Welcome to the community.
I went ahead and run Git GC against the repository.
Could you check the size now?
Regards,
Mark C
Hi Mark C,
Thank you so much! It looks much better now with 790MB.
I might have to reduce the repo size a bit more and ask you again for a gc though.
I hope that's ok.
All the best,
Thomas

Hi Mark C,
As expected, I had to further reduce the repo size.
Could you please run git gc one more time on the repository '*_app_android'?
Thank you so much and all the best,
Thomas

Thank you so much Mark C!
Now it's perfectly alright with 180MB.
All the best,
Thomas

Hey Thomas, Bitbucket doesn’t run GC immediately after pushing rewritten history, so it’s common to see a temporary size increase. You can open a support ticket and request a manual GC, that’s the only way to trigger it on their end. Be sure to mention you used BFG and that all refs were properly cleaned locally before the force-push.

Thank you for your answer Robin!
I'm on the free plan and therefor cannot open a support ticket.
But I've seen others asking for a gc here.
Thankfully the atlassian team members are super quick to respond.
All the best!
