SourceTree Cannot Log Into Bitbucket

AndyGabler February 10, 2018

While using SourceTree, it asked for my bitbucket login. I gave it my password and the login failed. Using the same credentials, I was able to login to bitbucket.org. How do I solve this?

Hi Andy! Have you tried entering your credentials again after that first attempt? Did you get any error message?

If you haven't already, you can try connecting your Bitbucket account following the steps at https://confluence.atlassian.com/get-started-with-sourcetree/connect-your-bitbucket-or-github-account-847359096.html

If after that you're still getting errors, let us know if you're you using Windows or Mac and send us a screenshot of the error you're getting so we can continue assisting you.

Best regards,

Ana

Thanks Ana,

The issue eventually disappeared but here is what happened first.

I kept trying to log in from SourceTree and tried a few combinations of passwords and usernames before logging into the Bitbucket site. The original credentials worked. The clone in SourceTree feature was not working from the Bitbucket site and even when I was logged into Bitbucket, SourceTree was not taking these credentials. When I used the option to try pulling the branch from the Git terminal, it asked for my credentials and accepted them.

I am not quite sure if it was resolved by something I did or if it simply went away, but hopefully the description of what happened before it went away helps others who may be having this issue.

Andy.
