I'm trying to upgrade from Stash to Bitbucket Server. I have BB installed but I can't find where bitbucket.properties is. It isn't in the atlbitbucket home dir as far as I can tell. I even searched the entire filesystem for it and got nothing.

You have to create the file, it is not created automatically. The only time it is created automatically is if you perform a database migration.

On this topic, in case you are using Bitbucket/Stash as a production environment you will want to migrate the data to an external DBMS at some point.

This is mostly for performance reasons but also to prevent risks of corruption.

You can follow steps listed at Connecting Bitbucket Server to an external database to perform the migration.
