Where is the fork sync feature?

We used to be able to push a "Sync now" link and bring the changes from main repo (trunk) into a given fork. This way all forks could stay current as changes are being added to the trunk.

As of this morning there is no longer a "sync now" link anywhere. In fact the page where it existed is now gone. The recent code changes submitted to the trunk are not present in the forks, so if there was supposed to be any magical automation it's clearly not working.

How do I sync my forks?

Yes, unfortunately the sync now feature isn't available in the new source browser experience. However, we are currently working on adding it back as soon as possible. As stated by Denis, you can disable the new browser by going to Bitbucket Labs.

Sync Now appears to be on my cloud UI  - just hidden in a really, I mean really obscure bit of UI i had never noticed.

Go to forked repo, src page and look closely along the top right edge - keep looking, further right, further right... its like one of those magic eye paintings.

Eventually you will find something your eye had ignored, you will tug on it and HEY PRESTO a hitherto unseen UI component hoves into view...

I wont ruin the surprise of this treasure hunt, but hint - its the top icon that will mean absolutely nothing to you until you click it...

I am on bitbucket.com and I can't find any such buttons. I have disabled all "beta" feature in bitbucket labs and still see the same feature as before. We have recently migrated from github and this is infuriating!

Could someone please share the navigation and screenshot!

I was informed that the new BETA interface (that we were enrolled into) does not have the "sync fork" feature. We have managed to opt out of the beta by visiting [avatar (bottom left] -> [Bitbucket Labs] -> [disable "beta"], and we're back to normal.

We need to remember that one for the next time a "beta" is rolled out to the unsuspecting masses.

I'm disappointed in the bitbucket team.

This is the answer I needed! I didn't even realize this beta was being shoved down my throat, let alone how crappy it is. It's so bad that I couldn't even discover my fork was a fork! Thank heavens there's a way out of it.

Hi @Bogdan Vreja,

hi bitbucket team,

what is the solution for this problem? we are running in the same situation and even after deactivating the beta features as described above it is not possible for me to sync.

cheers, mike

Seems like you only option now is to toggle "Enable fork synching" under "Repository settings" > "Fork synching".

I don't have Repository settings->fork syncking.

Jens Odborg August 20, 2021

FWIW: We are on:

"Git repository management for enterprise teams powered by Atlassian Bitbucket"

"Atlassian Bitbucket v7.7.1"

We still have "Repository settings > Fork synching" though we are not really using it.

But you have to have sufficient privilege to see "Repository settings"  and the repository must also be a fork for it to show up.

Everyone should know that when BB screws up "sync" you can still sync manually:

  1.  Pull the main repo and secondary repo from BB to your machine
  2.  Push from local main to local secondary
  3.  Push from local secondary to BB secondary

It's crude and it pushes more than you needed, but it works in a pinch.

BB should be ashamed of themselves for the lousy UI of "sync", specifically for undiscoverable placement and for hiding the button. This is a big problem. If you want to disable an action leave a button in and disable it - at least I would know to stop looking. You have caused me hours of frustration searching for something that wasn't there, and caused yourself several support tickets.

How do you push from local main to local secondary?

I use sourcetree and it only lets me push any repo to its origin repo.

Does anyone have a screenshot of where to find the Sync option in the UI?

I have already disabled the beta view but still can't find the option.

Edit: Thanks, Michael.
