Trying to clone: Failed connect to bitbucket.org:443; Operation now in progress

Deleted user June 19, 2020

I recently received a small RedHad 7.6 linux machine (no GUI) to run my code on.
When trying to clone my repo:
git clone https://someone@something.org/somegroup/myrepo.git
... I expected a log in prompt. Instead, I got:

unable to access 'https://someone@something.org/somegroup/myrepo.git/': Failed connect to bitbucket.org:443; Operation now in progress

Why is the connection failing?
Also, what operation is "now in progress"?

Hello Tudor,

On behalf of Atlassian Community Events, Nairobi we are answering this question as part of answerers challenge at our virtual event.

This seems to be a firewall issue/error, therefore you can find your solution on this link as the other user who faced the same issue: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Bitbucket-questions/Failed-connect-to-bitbucket-org-443-Operation-now-in-progress/qaq-p/135885

Best Regards

I don't see how this is an answer to my problem.

1. How were you able to determine that this is a firewall issue? I had googled the same link as the one you provided a week ago but it doesn't actually include any reference to the error I am getting.
2. What in my error exactly tells you this is a firewall issue and not, for example, a network reachability issue, pubic key validity or SSH agent version?
3. What about that "Operation now in progress"? What is the operation in progress?
