Unable to connect using SSH, but SSH Key IS authenticated

Chris.Boyle February 26, 2024

I am seeing the below message when I run ssh -T git@bitbucket.org:

authenticated via ssh key. You can use git to connect to Bitbucket. Shell access is disabled

However, when I run git pull I am still being prompted for a password.

I have followed all these steps and did not add a password to my SSH key:

https://support.atlassian.com/bitbucket-cloud/docs/set-up-personal-ssh-keys-on-windows/#Start-the-SSH-agent

I have run the debug command but I don't fully understand the output.

Do you know what I am doing wrong? In the past I have successfully connected via SSH using this laptop. It is only since last weeks attack on BitBucket that I am unable to connect.

I have deleted my old SSH key and created new and added to BitBucket but no luck.

I found the answer:

The first time you use GIT it asks for your account password. That didn't work. I eventually tried the 'app password', which did work. If this is an error please update the software prompt to request the 'App password' rather than the 'account password'.
