We are planning to change the Mac server that hosts bitbucket to a windows server. How do we go about migrating Bitbucket from Mac to windows?

Thankyou

Hi Chris

I haven't specifically done Mac OS but have moved several Atlassian apps (JIRA/Confluence/Bitbucket/Crucible) from other OS's including to and from Windows in an enterprise environment. My standard approach is along these lines:

  1. Install fresh binaries from Atlassian.com for Bitbucket - as it contains the same Windows executables as *unix shell scripts you would use on your Mac
  2. Configure the install as per documentation, JVM variables etc
  3. Copy the Bitbucket home data from the Mac server to the Windows server - preferably ZIP it up into one file to make transfers easier but this is up to you
  4. For database in my case when have this on separate Oracle server so I just re-point the new server to the existing database (no change or migration). If you need to migrate your database as well I would do this as a separate task
  5. Update any DNS entries (I you have any) to point your users to your new server

As always backup your data/config before making any changes in case you need to revert/start over. If possible perform this in a staging environment first before migrating production so you know what you should be doing.

If you have any other questions I am happy to try and answer these for you.

Regards, Jamie
