What is the scope of a bitbucket pipeline cache? Is it the branch?

I am wondering what the scope of a bitbucket pipeline cache is. Is the cache limited to a branch or is it shared between branches? How does it work for default pipelines shared by multiple branches?

The scope is - per repository (shared between branches and builds).
