When creating a new repository, what is the difference between local repository and remote repository ?

I am a newbie, at repositories.

I have Mac,  and installed SourceTree.

While creating a new repository, source tree is asking me some options, including local repo or Remote repo.

I do not know the difference, please guide me.

A local repo, as the name states, exists only on your PC.

A remote repo, however, is hosted somewhere else, e.g. Github.
