Why the download menu is available when you only have read only permission on the repo?

Hi,

We'll have to share a private repo with some employees that are not software engineers. They need to have access to some source code, but we like to not give them the ability to download the entire repo.

Do we have a way to either hide this menu for read only users or to delete the file that is automatically push here?

I thank you for any help you'll provide on this topic.

Thanks,

Philippe

Hello Philippe,

To ensure we’re understanding correctly, you have a set of users who will be given read-only permissions to your Bitbucket cloud Repo. Those users should have access to the repo only for read permissions, you’re wanting these users who have read permissions to not be able to download the repo at all. With this said, these users will have read-only permissions already which means they could view, clone and fork the code within the repo already. Removing the download option just prevents them from a single click download. It would not prevent the user from viewing code and copying and pasting the code elsewhere.

If you have a set of users you don’t want to allow access to the repo we would suggest you remove them from any/all permissions preventing them from copying your code content elsewhere. Further information about the permission of repos may be found at Grant repository access to users and groups.

I hope this proves helpful and clarifies what permission levels grant to the users who access the product.
