approvals in a pull request

I need to know how pull request approval works, because I have a configuration for the production branch in which 2 approvals are needed, but the approval of the person who opens the pull request is not counting.

Not counting authors approvals is expected and documented here. 

We offer an alternative Bitbucket app that supports counting the authors approval if you require this in your workflow.
