Is there any way of identifying user numbers that access Atlassian Compass, tracking by each hour or day, and also is there any way of identifying what they are using it for - ie tracking page imprints etc?
We're getting questions from our senior leadership around how our internal customers may be using compass as a product and being able to leverage google web analytics like data (Even a much less robust data set) will help us to be able to provide answers for some of the questions being asked.

At the moment, Compass itself doesn’t expose granular analytics such as hourly/daily active users, page views, or event tracking in the same way Google Analytics does. The product is still evolving, and usage analytics is one of the areas the Atlassian team is actively exploring.
Try to check Admin insights or Org audit logs (of course, if you are an org admin).
Also you can make Feature request to Atlassian.
