Assuming "edit" is implicit for "create"?

Hey all - excited to see RBAC finally available!

I'm assuming "yes" but does the "Create" permission imply the ability to edit? e.g. if I give a user "Create" i'm assuming this means they can make a page AND populate it with information, but they cannot edit it once it's published?

(The other option I can see would be just being able to make a blank page, which seems.... odd...)

Hi @Robert Hean - glad you're excited about RBAC!

The new "Create content" permission alone does not grant the ability to edit content after it has been created. The ability to edit is controlled separately by the "Edit content" permission.

When configuring custom roles, there is a built-in dependency between these permissions:

  • A custom role cannot have the "Create content" permission without also having the "Edit content" permission. In other words, if a user can create content, they must also be able to edit it.

  • However, a custom role can have the "Edit content" permission without having the "Create content" permission. This means a user could be allowed to edit existing content but not create new content.

The dependency above is not enforced when updating access via the manage access modal from the Users table in a space directly. It is only when creating and updating custom roles.

Thanks!
Marie
