RBAC beta - rolling out to all EAP customers tomorrow, June 12th

Hello EAP participants,

We’re thrilled to share you will get our new Beta features tomorrow, Thursday June 12th! Your feedback as early testers has been invaluable, and we can’t thank you enough for helping us shape what’s next. After months of refining core experiences and building new capabilities, we’re eager for you to try them out before our wider Beta launch next week.

As we move into Beta, we’ll also be opening up this private community group to our Beta participants, making the group open so folks can discover it and join. You’ll start to see more faces around the group and discussions over the coming weeks.

Onto the fun stuff - here are the core updates you can expect with this Beta release tomorrow.

Create custom roles

You've been asking for them, and they're finally ready. Custom roles let you tailor access to fit your organization’s unique needs beyond what Confluence’s 4 default roles support. Confluence admins can now define the exact permissions, name, and description for up to 10 custom roles, making it easy to match internal workflows and ensure the right people have the right access.

New split permissions & updated permission descriptions

We’ve added a few new permissions to allow for further access fine-tuning and updated permissions descriptions to be more intuitive.

Split permissions What it was before
  • Create content
  • Edit content
Create and edit content
  • Create blogs
  • Edit blogs

Create and edit blogs

  • View content
  • Export individual content items

View content - if you could view the content item, you could export it

There will be no effective change to what users can do when assigned any of Confluence’s roles (Admin, Manager, Collaborator, Viewer). If the role has the original permission, it will have both split-out permissions. For example:

  • Collaborator will have both Create content and Edit content.

  • Viewer will have both View content and Export individual content items

Anyone on your site with a custom access configuration who has the original permissions listed above will have the same permissions they had before. Now with these new split permissions, they’ll just have both split permissions checked.

Assign roles in bulk

Easily add users, groups, and user classes to all spaces with a particular role (or remove access from all spaces) in a single flow.

Looking forward to your feedback on custom roles, the new split permissions, and bulk access management with roles. You can share feedback directly in the product using the "Give feedback" buttons across Confluence permissions surfaces, via this community group, or directly with me via email (mcasabonne@atlassian.com).

@Marie Casabonne This is a vey good step to split Add and Edit content.

We have also need to give access to users to:

  • Manage Templates in a space
  • Content Manager: Which will allow them to handle pages in bulk. for ex. change page owner for several pages.

Today, we must give them Admin and this is not accepted.
