Nested Tables Are Now Available to Everyone in Confluence Cloud

Hi everyone,

Some of you may already be using this, but for many, this long-awaited functionality only became available recently: nested tables are now fully rolled out in Confluence Cloud! 🎉

Earlier this year, Atlassian announced the upcoming release of this feature for cloud. However, the rollout was gradual, and many users didn’t see it until this week. Now, the feature is live for all instances!

Why This Matters

Migration folks will understand the weight this little change holds. Migrating nested tables from Server/ DC to Cloud was a handy, painful, non-standardize job. You’d end up reworking content, breaking structures, or finding workarounds just to get something halfway usable.

Now, with support for one level of nesting, that pain is significantly reduced. Sure, it's not full parity with Server (yet), but this is a big step forward.

Key Highlights

  • âś… Insert tables inside tables (up to one level deep)

  • 🛠️ Improved migration support from the legacy editor

  • 🧱 Enhanced editing experience for more structured content

  • 📢 Top-requested feature now delivered!

Note: Pasting a table inside another won’t create a nested table, it will still follow the standard paste behavior. This was intentional based on early user feedback.

Little changes. Big impact. Cheers!

Fun facts

  • You can paste a table into a nested table if you generate the nested table first.
  • You can't have have a 3rd level nested table [Table, sub table, sub sub table].
  • You can have multiple nested tables (in different cells) within the main table.

Hope this helps :)
